What're DUI & Drink Driving Legal Services?
UAE law imposes strict criminal penalties for driving or attempting to drive while under the influence of alcohol, narcotic substances, psychotropic substances, or similar substances. Under Article 35 of Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024 on Traffic Regulation, alcohol-related driving can result in imprisonment and/or a fine of AED 20,000 to AED 100,000, while driving under the influence of narcotic or psychotropic substances can result in imprisonment and/or a fine of AED 30,000 to AED 200,000.
DUI legal services cover representation for drivers accused of drink driving, drug-impaired driving, and aggravated traffic offences involving accidents, injuries, or property damage. Our lawyers examine the prosecution evidence, testing records, police reports, accident circumstances, and procedural history to identify the legal issues relevant to the case.
The consequences can extend beyond the criminal fine. For alcohol-related offences, Article 35 provides for driving licence suspension of at least three months for a first offence and six months for a second offence, with cancellation on the third offence. For driving under the influence of narcotic or psychotropic substances, the law provides for licence suspension and eventual cancellation depending on the offence history.
In Dubai, DUI can also result in 23 black points and vehicle impoundment for 60 days, alongside the criminal penalties determined by the court. Dubai’s official road-safety guidance identifies driving under the influence of alcohol as carrying 23 black points and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.
Our criminal defense lawyers represent clients facing DUI allegations from the initial police investigation through Public Prosecution and court proceedings. Where necessary, we can also assist with urgent applications concerning bail, vehicle release, driving licence measures, and travel restrictions.

Frequently Asked Questions About DUI in the UAE
What happens if I am arrested for drink driving in Dubai?
A suspected DUI can lead to police procedures, testing, and referral to Public Prosecution and the competent court. Legal representation can be requested at the early stages so the allegations and evidence can be properly assessed.
Can a DUI lawyer challenge a breathalyzer or blood test?
The available testing evidence can be examined as part of the defense. This may include reviewing the testing records, forensic documentation, circumstances of collection, and other evidence relevant to the reliability and legal significance of the result.
Can I get my impounded car back after a DUI?
Vehicle impoundment is separate from the criminal penalty and is subject to the applicable Dubai rules and procedures. Dubai’s official guidance currently identifies a 60-day impoundment for alcohol-related DUI. Legal advice can help determine what application or procedure may be available in the particular case.
Will I lose my driving license after a DUI?
Article 35 provides for licence suspension of at least three months for a first alcohol-related offence, six months for a second offence, and cancellation for a third offence. Different provisions apply to driving under the influence of narcotic or psychotropic substances.
Can a DUI case result in deportation for an expatriate?
Deportation is not an automatic consequence that can be assumed from every DUI allegation. The consequences depend on the conviction, offence classification, sentence, and applicable UAE immigration and criminal-law provisions. UAE government guidance distinguishes judicial and administrative deportation and sets out circumstances in which judicial deportation may apply.
What if the DUI involved an accident or injury?
The accident can introduce additional legal issues beyond the underlying DUI allegation. The defense may therefore need to address the accident report, injuries or property damage, causation, witness evidence, and any additional criminal or traffic charges.
Can a UAE Company Change Its Manager or Authorised Signatory?
Yes. The company may need to approve the change through a board or shareholder resolution and update its licence, constitutional documents or registered records.
