How Does Getting a Power of Attorney in Dubai Work?
From confirming the right type of POA to handing you the notarised original, our lawyers manage each stage so the document is accepted first time.

We identify whether you need a general or special power of attorney and which authority will receive it, so the wording is built to that authority’s requirements.

When Do You Need a Power of Attorney?
Speak with us if you need a power of attorney for:
1. Property Sale, Purchase or Mortgage
The Dubai Land Department will only register a transfer made by an agent under a special power of attorney that names the property and the exact power.
We draft property POAs for owners in the UAE and abroad, identifying the unit or plot and the authority to sell, buy, mortgage, lease or transfer, in the form the DLD accepts [confirm current DLD requirements].

3. Company and Corporate Representation
Resolve Shareholder & Partnership Disputes
4. Bank Accounts and Financial Matters
UAE banks accept a limited POA that names the bank, the account and the permitted operations, and reject wording they consider too broad.
We draft banking POAs to the bank’s acceptance criteria and guide you through the bank’s own registration of the document.

6. Overseas Principals and Foreign POAs

frequently asked questions
What does a power of attorney lawyer do in Dubai?
A power of attorney lawyer confirms which type of POA your matter needs, drafts it in the wording the receiving authority expects, arranges notarisation before a Dubai public or private notary, manages attestation for POAs coming from or going abroad, and prepares revocations. Our lawyers also represent clients in disputes where an agent has acted beyond the authority given.
What is the difference between a general and a special power of attorney in Dubai?
A general power of attorney grants broad authority across many matters and is closely scrutinised by UAE authorities. A special power of attorney grants authority for one defined transaction, such as a named property sale or court case, and is the format courts, the Dubai Land Department and banks accept most readily. Most clients need a special POA.
How do I get a power of attorney in Dubai?
You confirm the type and purpose, have the POA drafted in Arabic or bilingual form, sign it before a public notary at Dubai Courts or a licensed private notary (in person or remotely with UAE Pass), and present the notarised original to the authority that will rely on it. A POA signed abroad must also be attested before use in the UAE.
How much does a power of attorney cost in Dubai?
The cost has two parts: the government notary fee, which is fixed by Cabinet Resolution (the current schedule took effect on 16 March 2024) and varies by type of POA, and the professional fee for drafting, translation and any attestation. We confirm the professional fee after the consultation once the type and scope are known
How long does it take to get a power of attorney in Dubai?
Drafting typically takes [1 to 2 working days], and notarisation can be completed on the day of the appointment. Attestation of a foreign POA adds time that depends on the country of origin.
Can I make a power of attorney online in Dubai?
Yes. Federal Decree-Law No. 20 of 2022 allows notaries to complete transactions through electronic means without personal appearance and gives an electronically notarised document the same probative force as a paper one. Remote notarisation is generally available to UAE residents with an activated UAE Pass
Do I need to be in Dubai to give a power of attorney?
No. A principal outside the UAE can sign a POA at a UAE embassy or consulate, or sign before a local notary and have the document legalised, attested by MOFAIC and translated for use in Dubai. We manage both routes.
Is a power of attorney from India, the UK or another country valid in Dubai?
Not until it has been attested. The POA must be notarised in the country of origin, attested by that country’s foreign ministry, legalised by the UAE embassy there, attested by MOFAIC in the UAE, and translated into Arabic by a licensed legal translator. Without this chain, UAE authorities will not accept it.
How long is a power of attorney valid in the UAE, and can it be cancelled?
A POA remains valid until its stated expiry date, until the task it was issued for is complete, until it is revoked, or until the principal or agent dies or loses legal capacity.
To cancel a POA you sign a notarised revocation, serve notice on the agent and notify every institution relying on the document. We handle each step.
Does Al Ramsy Advocates draft powers of attorney for companies?
Yes. We prepare corporate POAs for managers, branch representatives and foreign parent companies, aligned with the company’s trade licence, Memorandum and Articles of Association, and the board or shareholder resolution authorising the POA.
