What Are Traffic Offence Legal Services?
Traffic offence legal services provide representation for motorists facing serious traffic violations that may result in criminal proceedings, prosecution, or significant penalties. These matters can involve dangerous or reckless driving, hit-and-run allegations, serious traffic accidents, driving under the influence, and offences resulting in injury, death, or substantial property damage.
The UAE’s current federal traffic framework is Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024 on Traffic Regulation, which replaced the previous federal traffic law and governs driving licenses, traffic control, vehicle seizure, serious traffic offences, and related penalties. The law also gives traffic authorities powers to arrest drivers caught committing specified serious offences, including causing death or serious property damage, reckless driving, certain DUI offences, and attempting to escape after an accident.
Our UAE traffic offence lawyers represent individuals facing investigation, police proceedings, Public Prosecution charges, and court proceedings arising from serious traffic incidents. We assess the accident records, police reports, available evidence, witness accounts, vehicle information, and other circumstances relevant to the case.
Where appropriate, our criminal defense lawyers also assist with driver’s license suspension or cancellation, vehicle impoundment, traffic-related criminal proceedings, appeals, and settlement or reconciliation with injured parties.
How Does a Traffic Offence Case Work in the UAE?
A serious traffic matter can move beyond an ordinary traffic fine and become a criminal case depending on the nature of the alleged offence and its consequences. Our lawyers assess the circumstances, evidence, and procedural position before advising on the appropriate legal response.

Traffic Offences in the UAE
frequently asked questions
What is considered a serious traffic offence in the UAE?
Serious traffic offences can include reckless or dangerous driving, driving under the influence, fleeing an accident involving injury, causing death through the use of a vehicle, and other conduct that may result in criminal proceedings rather than an ordinary traffic fine. The applicable classification depends on the facts and the relevant legal provision.
Can I be arrested for a traffic offence in the UAE?
Article 31 of Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024 allows traffic control authorities to arrest a driver caught committing specified offences, including causing death or serious property damage, reckless driving, certain DUI offences, or attempting to escape following an accident that harms an individual.
What happens if I leave the scene of an accident?
Leaving the scene without an acceptable excuse after an accident involving injury can constitute an offence under Article 38. The provision allows for imprisonment of up to two years and/or a fine between AED 50,000 and AED 100,000 in the circumstances specified by the law.
Can a traffic offence affect my driving license?
Depending on the offence, the law can provide for suspension or cancellation of a driving license. For example, Article 35 establishes license suspension periods and eventual cancellation for repeated alcohol-related driving offences.
Can a traffic case be settled with the injured person?
Depending on the nature of the case, settlement or reconciliation with an injured party may form part of the legal strategy. However, a private settlement does not automatically eliminate every criminal consequence, and the effect depends on the applicable offence and stage of proceedings.
What should I do if I am arrested after a traffic accident?
Avoid making unnecessary statements or attempting to resolve the matter informally before understanding your legal position. Obtain legal assistance promptly, particularly if the incident involves injury, death, alleged intoxication, serious property damage, or an allegation that you left the scene.
Can a lawyer challenge a traffic offence allegation?
A lawyer can review the evidence and procedural circumstances and raise legally available defenses or challenges. Depending on the case, this may involve examining the accident report, witness evidence, technical records, medical evidence, vehicle information, or the classification of the alleged offence.
Can Al Ramsy Advocates represent me at the police station?
Our criminal defense team can provide urgent representation in appropriate traffic-related criminal matters, including police station proceedings, Public Prosecution investigations, court proceedings, and related legal applications.
